"The culture of inefficiency, laziness and incompetence. Dealing with people who have been promoted for no other reason than time in service. The total lack of communication between our office and higher headquarters and within higher headquarters."

"Allow people to work more freely and not micro-manage everything."

"Much of the work involves unnecessary paperwork and regulations that hinder efficiency or are outright ridiculous and make everything more difficult."

"Overhaul information technology, cut down worthless training, stop allowing generals to do things on a whim that make no sense."

"Work can be slow at times. It is interesting to work with representatives from foreign militaries. Overall not a bad place to work, especially in this economy."

"Most coworkers are retirement age, yet refuse to retire. Huge gap between the age of most workers and new hires."

What suggestions do you have for management?

"More autonomy/ability to solve my own problems as they arise, less micromanaging. Knowledge/Information should be shared amongst all the different Codes in the International Programs Office, rather than treated as heavily guarded secrets."

"Do not work for the Department of Defense at all."

"To many chiefs, who clash and micromanage and are selfserving."

"I would lead by example and respect hands on leadership."

"The process to apply is online in which you need to specify any and all related skills and/or education related to this job to make it in for an interview. When interviewing with the DOD, it is most important to be honest."

"There was nothing that I did not enjoy about being employed with the DOD."

"My opinions are listened to and acted upon and I feel respected."

"My job description is fairly loose and I don't always know what I should be doing."

"I would try to be more progressive in our goals."

"Not being able to get promoted. Seeing the same people everyday. Not having an opinion because of grade."

"Every year switch jobs temporarily. Team training. Go paperless. Incentives."

"This was a one year assignment. I didn't really get the chance to really get to know the company that well."

"Be ready to be interviewed by a panel. Every question was given a number rating and that's how decisions were made to hire."

"The only way to get in at the Government was to know someone. I personally didn't but worked very hard to get hired."

"Need to be more open to new ideas from people that came from the outside work force."

"Relocation to numerous times, and part of Base closure and realignment aka BRAC."

"Identify key personnel, assign projects to, and hold people accountable."

"The lack of being provided training opportunities and upward mobility. I usually teach myself things but it's very discouraging when the company (especially the DoD) can't provide training to what they consider their BEST employees."

"For my current management, focus on training those who get the work done on a regular basis and listen to suggestions and to not promise the impossible."
