Covad Careers & Info

Former CEO: Pat Bennett

Stauts: Merged with MegaPath and abandoned their brand name.

Status: As of September 2010, Covad Communications Group merged with two companies – MegaPath and Speakeasy. The merged company retained MegaPath's name. The company is now privately held by a group of investors with a company called Platinum Equity as the primary one. Best Buy is also a known investor.

MegaPath focuses on providing voice, access, managed security solutions and private networking to approximately 85,000 clients. The company now operates via divisions, with Covad being a division of MegaPath. Covad still retains its focus of providing broadband voice and data communications for small and medium-sized firms. The company’s most famous accomplishment is that it owns and operates the only national DSL broadband network in the United States. Its DSL network is available in approximately 900 cities, and the company's DSL network accounts for about 50 percent of U.S. market shares in homes and businesses.

Telecommunications professionals know upfront what personality traits the company looks for in its employees. On its website, the company clearly stresses what hiring managers look for in candidates who hope to find Covad careers. Those who describe themselves as “confident, innovative, spirited, easy to do business with and trustworthy” will find themselves fitting into the company’s culture.

The company also stresses a “code of conduct” that applies to employees, directors and customers. This code of conduct plays a large role in defining the Covad culture. The company takes steps to ensure that all parties understand how to avoid conflicts of interest. Its code of conduct policy covers items such as accepting gifts from clients to working for a competitor during employment with Covad Communications Group.

Those who find themselves working at Covad Communications will receive benefits that compare favorably with the company's competitors. Covad offers comprehensive medical, dental and vision plans to employees who work at least 30 hours a week. Employees also have 401(k) plans, paid time off (PTO) days to use for vacation or sick days and an employee assistance program. Covad Group benefits also include additional incentives. For example, employees who want to pursue an eligible undergraduate degree from an accredited university may receive up to $5,000 per year in tuition assistance.
