Engineers with experience in the electrical, metallurgical and chemical fields can establish long-term ArcelorMittal careers. Engineers are responsible for a wide variety of plant operations and research tasks. They assure that all plants are following best practice guidelines and may help implement new manufacturing and handling processes. Some engineers work exclusively on the monitoring and maintenance of plant equipment. They assure that all equipment is functioning efficiently and properly. Senior engineers are expected to provide on-the-job training and support to engineers in apprenticeship and training programs.

Safety assurance specialists work in every ArcelorMittal location. They provide general safety oversight and employee training. Individuals in safety assurance roles are responsible for identifying potential safety hazards. They must communicate any problems to plant managers in a timely fashion. Some safety assurance specialists may travel from facility to facility in the course of their duties. Safety assurance specialists respond immediately to emergency situations at all facilities. Safety assurance personnel generally handle on-call shifts and must be willing to work long hours. They may be required to travel extensively in the case of accidents or emergency situations at other facilities.

Trade artisans working at ArcelorMittal are offered a variety of career paths. Entry-level artisans may train as millwrights, fitters, instrumentation specialists, refractory masons, electricians, boilermakers or welders. All trade artisans complete a traditional apprenticeship. Trade artisans work in all ArcelorMittal facilities. Artisans who successfully complete apprenticeships may be offered the opportunity to train new artisans. Individuals in these roles may be required to work long or irregular shifts. They are generally required to hold the equivalent of a high school diploma and must speak English.

The ArcelorMittal culture stresses ongoing education and personal development. All employees are offered comprehensive training. They are required to participate in regular seminars and classes to assure that they are up-to-date on all technologies and processes. The company generally provides some financial support for those individuals who must pursue licensing in their field. Eligible employees may be awarded an ArcelorMittal benefits package. Benefits offerings vary from area to area.
