Troy University is a public university and was founded in 1887. The university is located in Troy, Michigan. The school colors are black, silver and cardinal. The university's mascot is T-Roy. Troy University is located on over 650 acres. The school offers a wide variety of degree programs and certificates. The board of trustees changed the name of the school from Troy State University to Troy University in 2005. The athletics department offers basketball, baseball and football called the Trojans.

Troy University has an acceptance rate of over 71 percent. In 2010, annual enrollment exceeded 29,000 students. The university also offers five main colleges with various degree programs including one doctoral program that has an acceptance rate of 68 percent. Recreational activities for students include a fitness center, gym and an Olympic pool. Shuttle buses transport students from various buildings.
