2.5Racial discrimination: I was called other Black female manager’s names on 10+ occasions during Google Meet meetings where our names were present on the screen. My direct supervisor did this multiple times to each of us. During my termination meeting he deflected by saying he does this to everyone instead of taking responsibility as a leader to learn his team and who they are as individuals so it is not done to anyone.
Mental Health discrimination: I was diagnosed with PMDD on 10.1.2022 and disclosed this to Varsity Tutors HR the same day. I scanned and sent in my ADA accommodations after a 1 month follow up with my doctor to review on 10.31.2022. I sent my signed documents to the identified HR representative on 10.31.2022. I did not hear back so I sent my documents via Slack on 11.2.2022. On 11.3.2022 I was told a meeting would be set. On Monday 11.7.2022 a meeting was set for 11.9.2022 at 4:30p. I was terminated on 11.8.2022 at 11:20a. My accommodations were received and ignored and then I was fired with no prior history of warnings, poor work performance, or a history of chronic abuse. There are no written or verbal warnings on file. All of my performance management documents show excellent performance and praise from my direct supervisor.
3.7I work as a independent contractor for varsity tutors, mostly in computer science topics. So far I haven't had any conflicts with the company. The compensation is competitive and their online tutoring client gets the job done most of the time. There are a few limitations to the online client, there's no real built in support for programming, but there are workarounds. Unfortunately, there isn't always a steady stream of clients, but that's mostly due to the fact that most students are in college and don't seek tutoring while out of class. All and all, it's a nice company to work for.
3.8The training program was amazing and very detailed. Told us everything we needed to know about the company in case a lead asked, we were set. When it came to management outside of training, it was a little all over the place. Company culture went down the drain for a little bit but I believe if company culture would pick back up, it is a great place to work!
