Carmike Cinemas is an American movie theater chain. Established in 1982 by entrepreneur Carl Patrick, Sr. and named for his two sons, the chain began with the acquisition of a few movie theaters in rural Georgia. After emerging from bankruptcy in 2002, it restructured and began acquiring theaters again. Today, it is the fourth largest chain in the U.S.
Carmike has its headquarters in Columbus, Georgia. The company currently operates the GKC, Rave and Eastwynn movie theaters, most of which are multiplexes. Carmike is the single largest exhibitor of 3-D movies today, having made a significant investment in the projection technology. In 2011, Carmike generated sales of more than $480 million from its more than 2,000 screens in 35 states.
Carmike employs staff across its more than 230 multiplexes in the United States. Positions for theater managers, projectionists and concessions workers are available in several states. Hourly wages are midline for the industry and benefit packages are not considered extensive. The company has maintained its reputation as a community-based, small town theater chain, and its most recent acquisitions in 2012 have been in Kentucky and Tennessee.
Chief Accounting Officer is the highest paying job at Carmike Cinemas at $168,000 annually.
